Sandia hopes to commercialize its multiple-tracked robotic vehicle

Sandia's robotic range

The Department of Energy’s Sandia National Laboratories would like to identify a commercial business – with expertise in decontamination, hazardous materials and explosives detection – that could help Sandia develop a robotic vehicle that utilizes “multiple tracked mobility platforms” technology.

Sandia says it has developed a robotic vehicle which has two or more tracked mobility platforms, which can increase the vehicle’s mobility. “The robotic vehicle is operative in hazardous environments and is capable of semi-submersible operation,” explains Sandia in a special notice it posted online on July 19. “The robotic vehicle is capable of remote controlled operation via radio frequency and/or fiber optic communication link to a remote control unit.”

Sandia would like to license its technology and intellectual property “for reasonable compensation” to a commercial firm that would “promptly incorporate it into a commercial product.”

Interested companies are invited to describe their abilities and experience to Sandia by August 13 by contacting Adam Heying at 505-284-4101 or aheying@sandia.gov.

Sandia envisions itself signing a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement, known as a CRADA, with its prospective business partner.
