In an operating environment where threats are imminent and the response must be equally swift, video communication technology can offer DHS and its communities of interest new ways to collaborate to improve homeland security operations.

Video analytics has been shown to work well in controlled environments, such as those indoors. However, outdoor applications have raised the bar due to the considerable environmental variations and substantially larger areas of intended coverage.

The federal government is increasingly taking a leadership role in improving the nation's cyber-security. But, with a threat that is quickly growing and more sophisticated each day, it's clear that the government -- for all of its good intentions -- cannot win this battle without a robust commitment from technology companies.

Cyber-crime and fraud has become high profile as internet usage has increased and thieves evolve their techniques. Detecting this criminal activity poses enormous challenges for traditional investigative techniques and business intelligence technology. Analysts are being asked to assimilate more and more data into meaningful and actionable intelligence that can be acted upon quickly. This is a daunting task as the volume of data that comes into play is staggering and crippling to most analytic tools.

Matt Barnette, VP Sales and Marketing, points out that AMAG started out as an access control provider, but is now a full-service security products provider. New technologies being introduced include a new generation video enclosure which is IT sensory, the Hawkeye mobile, handheld device, which checks ID cards out in the field and can allow guards to look at videos while walking, and the new IDS product with 4-line keyboard display.

Fredrik Nilsson, General Manager for Axis North America, says that Axis clients worldwide include subways, airports, military, government and commercial perimeter protection. The trends in government, he believes, are high resolution video packaged into networks. In 2009, Axis increased R&D spending by 24 percent, because the company believed that a recession stimulates technology, and buyers prefer better quality video and lower installation costs.

Andy Teich, President of FLIR’s Commercial Systems Division, describes two new products. The FLIR Thermal Fence ties FLIR cameras together into a network that includes a network console and an analytics algorithm with many capabilities. The Guardsman is a handheld thermal imager designed for guard safety. Teich also explains that the company’s high-volume business in the auto market lowers costs on all FLIR Thermal Imaging products.

Learn how to integrate the latest innovations in video compression technology with H.264.

Massive Quality, Minimal Files H.264 uses the latest innovations in
video compression technology to provide incredible video quality from the smallest amount of video data. This means you see crisp, clear video in much smaller files, saving you bandwidth and storage costs over previous generations of video codecs. H.264 delivers the same quality as MPEG-2 at a third to half the data rate and up to four times the frame size of MPEG-4 Part 2 at the same data rate.
H.264 is truly a sight to behold.
